HEALTH & SAFETY

Staff Members:  The Camp Director, Medical Director and staff live on the premises during the camping season.  Staff members are selected on the basis of their maturity and leadership abilities.  All staff members are dedicated to the belief that “Camp is for the Campers”, and strengthen that ideal by promoting the goals of 4-H camping.  Many of the staff members are certified educators or are attending college to prepare for careers in the field of education.  All staff members participate in a week-long training session prior to the start of the camp season.

Health Regulations:  Camp complies with all federal, state and county health codes, is inspected twice each camping season, and is officially permitted for youth camping by the Cortland Co. Department of Health.  Copies of the inspection reports and required safety plans are available for review at Cornell Cooperative Extension of Cortland Co. (607) 753-5077, or the County Health Dept. (607) 753-5035. Cornell Cooperative Extension and Camp Owahta provide equal program and employment opportunities.

Daily Meals:  Nutritious meals, provided each day, comply with the USDA Summer Food Program guidelines.  In addition, camp strives to provide healthy options on a daily basis.  Breakfast, lunch, dinner, and a night time snack are provided daily.  Day camper lunches are provided daily as part of their registration fees.
