CIT Program

CIT Program

Attention:  Camp Owahta Senior Campers and former CIT’s:

It’s hard to believe, but it’s time to start thinking about the upcoming Camp Season.  This season we will continue the Counselor in Training (CIT) Program and follow the same format as last year..  There will still be two programs; CIT-ONE (ages 13-14), and CIT-TWO (ages 14-15).  CIT-ONE is a one week commitment and will be offered during the first week of camp. CIT-TWO is a four week commitment and will be offered during weeks two through five.

CIT-ONE 2012 Program Description

One Week (Session-July 1-6)

Cost of the Program
:  Regular Camp Registration Fee

Program Incentives:  Campers who are successful in the CIT-ONE Program will be invited back the following summer to participate in the CIT-TWO Program.

Purpose of the CIT ONE Program:  Provide potential counselors with an understanding of what is involved in the counseling process.  The program is a one-week experience that is designed to foster the growth process from a camper to a counselor.   This experience will come through specific training sessions with the CIT Director, leadership opportunities in the four areas of camp (waterfront, crafts, outdoor education, recreation), and a pairing with a Camp Owahta counselor.  The fact that this session is being offered only one week will allow us to provide ample time with each participant, and increase overall participation so that more team leadership activities can be incorporated into the program.

CIT-TWO Program Description

Four Weeks (Session-July 8-August 3)

Cost of the Program:
$700 if paid in installments throughout the season or $600 if paid in full prior to June 15th.  A non-refundable deposit of $100 is required with the camper application.  Please note that we can make exceptions if a camper can only attend three of the four weeks, however, we are unable to adjust the fee, since the fee is already adjusted.

Program Incentives
:  Fifteen year old campers who are successful in the CIT-TWO Program will be invited back the following summer as a paid staff member.  They will be paid at the rate of a second year counselor.

Purpose of the CIT TWO Program:
Offer an increased level of understanding of the counseling process and offer a positive transition to a paid position the following season.  Like the CIT-ONE program, this experience is designed to foster the growth from camper to counselor.  However, expectations and training will be provided at a higher level of understanding.
